Mauro Icardi

There’s Growing Speculation That Icardi Could Leave PSG For Atlético Madrid

Speculation about where Mauro Icardi will play next season has been a constant talking point in the transfer rumor mill with his loan at Paris Saint-Germain set to end at the conclusion of the season.

PSG could decide to pay the €70 million and keep the Argentine goal-poacher or sell him on for a profit. It’s also possible they let the loan run out and allow him to return to Inter Milan for them to deal with.

One option that has been picking up steam lately is a move to Atlético Madrid. According to Tuttosport (via Diario AS), Diego Simeone wanted Icardi last summer but Inter ultimately loaned him to PSG. Now, they have the chance to sign him again but it won’t be cheap.

PSG will want to make some kind of profit on Icardi if they sign him with the intent to sell and the coronavirus pandemic has forced clubs to be a bit more frugal than usual.

Would Atlético be willing to splash the cash on Icardi when they could likely sign Edinson Cavani on a free transfer this summer? My instincts tell me, no, but I’ve been wrong before and as we saw earlier this season, Icardi can be a game-changer with the right parts around him.
