Report: Telles Interested in PSG But Transfer is Not a Done Deal

When the news that Alex Telles was close to agreeing to a transfer from FC Porto to Paris Saint-Germain, supporters were excited about the possibility of the left-back coming into the squad to compete with Juan Bernat. However, the deal is far from done.

According to Le Parisien, Telles “is coveted by PSG” and they’ve been following him for a long time. A source close to the situation told the French publication that while PSG is being considered, the transfer is not a done deal. “PSG is a candidate and the player is interested, but the transfer window is completely blocked by the coronavirus.”

Both FC Barcelona and Chelsea FC are reportedly interested in signing Telles and he could be lured by the bright lights of playing in a more popular league than Ligue 1. Those clubs may also be able to provide Telles with more playing time. If the Brazilian signs for PSG, he’ll have to beat out Bernat for the starting job, which I think he can do, but it’s a gamble. Bernat has been known to step up his game when you least expect it.

Hopefully, the promise of playing along with fellow Brazilians Neymar Jr. and Marquinhos, and the prospect of UEFA Champions League football every season, will be enough for Telles to sign for PSG when the transfer window opens up…whenever that might be.
