Report: PSG On the Verge of Beating Barcelona and Chelsea to Porto Defender

The football world has stopped on the pitch due to COVID-19, but the business side continues, which is why Zero Hora (via A Bolais reporting that Paris Saint-Germain is on the verge of acquiring Alex Telles from FC Porto.

With the impending departure of Layvin Kurzawa, that would leave Juan Bernat and the rarely utilized Mitchel Bakker as the only options at left-back next season. As a result, Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, needs to add some depth and the 27-year-old from Portugal would be the ideal signing.

Telles has made 40 appearances for the Dragões this season, with 39 of them coming at left-back. The Porto defender is much more involved offensively than Bernat, contributing 10 goals and nine assists. That kind of production has led to top clubs inquiring about his availability in the transfer market.

As for the cost, Telles has a value of €32 million per Transfermarkt, however, according to the Brazilian newspaper, PSG could be paying below market. With only one year left on his contract, it seems as though Les Parisians were able to negotiate the price down to €25 million.

However, Porto could also be using PSG to draw up more interest in Telles with Chelsea FC and FC Barcelona also showing interest in the Brazilian. Porto are in a bit of financial trouble, so they will want to sell their prized asset for a fee closer to the €40 million release clause. Perhaps knowing that Telles has one foot in Paris will cause Chelsea to up their offer or call Porto’s bluff.

If PSG can pull off this signing it would bring yet another Brazilian into the squad and add to the club’s illustrious history with players from the South American country.
