Paris Saint-Germain invested in their midfield last summer with the signings of Idrissa Gueye and Ander Herrera but don’t expect Leonardo to ignore the position during the upcoming transfer window.
Over the weekend, Le10Sport reported that PSG’s sporting director is interested in AC Milan midfielder Ismaël Bennacer. While Leonardo didn’t officially sign Bennacer when he held the same position with the Rossoneri, he was the one who made him a transfer target and initiated negotiations.
Now at PSG, Leonardo has already been in ‘direct contact’ with Bennacer’s agent according to CalcioMercato.com.
This all seems like deja vu. During last January’s transfer window, we saw reports about PSG’s interest in Milan’s Lucas Paquetá who is another player Leonardo recruited while at the club. That deal never materialized and I’m not confident this one will either.
Bennacer is a decent player and would make PSG better, but with a Milan wanting at least €30 million for the Algeria international, I would rather the club save that money and apply it to signing another Seria A midfielder, Lazio’s Sergej Milinković-Savić.
