It’s not a matter of if, but when Paris Saint-Germain will name Marquinhos captain.
Whether Thiago Silva extends his contract and remains with the capital club in a reduced role or not, the leader of the defense and squad after this season will be his compatriot.
Marquinhos has worn the captain’s armband several times this season and was named a co-captain by the manager, Thomas Tuchel. The versatile defender who recently signed a contract extension until 2024 is clearly being groomed to take take the reins from Silva.
With all these factors, Canal Plus journalist Olivier Tallaron gave an interview to The Reservists (via ParisTeam) to lay out some characteristics as to why Marqiunhos will soon be leading Les Parisiens going forward.
“Marquinhos, he is exceptional. The guy is Brazilian, and he learned to speak French so quickly. He has a lucidity after crazy games, never a bad word, he accepts criticism,” Tallaron said.
Then when asked if Marquinhos will be the captain for PSG, Tallaron doesn’t hesitate to say yes.
“He is an impressive guy. The future captain of PSG? Ah yes, ah yes. He has everything to be captain Marquinhos,” said Tallaron. “Frankly, for me, he is the future captain of PSG without a doubt. After he is a good player, but not bad enough on the field.”
Although Mariquinhos arrived in Paris from AS Roma in 2013 as a teenager, it feels as though the Brazilian is a homegrown talent who is ready to lead his club.
