Leipzig Reportedly Beat Barcelona to Promising PSG Defender

Tanguy Kouassi is one of the crown jewels of the Paris Saint-Germain youth system. The 17-year-old, who, along with Adil Aouchiche, are two players the capital club hopes will sign a professional contract. Unfortunately, it looks as though another one of them will possibly be departing soon.

According to L’Equipe (via Get French Football News), Kouassi is reportedly heading to Germany and will sign with RB Leipzig. The French publisher is reporting that a deal is “tied up” and the France international will begin his professional career in the Bundesliga and not at FC Barcelona.

Before football came to a halt due to coronavirus, PSG had given the young central defender playing time with the first team to see what he could do. He made six appearances in Ligue 1, three in the Coupe de France, and two in the Coupe de la Ligue. From those performances, the Frenchman scored three goals and recorded one assist.

Furthermore, manager Thomas Tuchel played the teenager in two UEFA Champions League matches. The goal of all of this playing time was for Kouassi to see that he’s a key player going forward for Les Parisiens, but it clearly wasn’t enough.

A lot of young talent has departed over the last couple of seasons, but it’s safe to say that this departure is a punch to the gut to many PSG supporters.
