Neymar Jr. is one of the best players in the world but he is also a cheater according to former Real Madrid manager Vicente Del Bosque.
Quoted by the Daily Star, Del Bosque unloaded on the Paris Saint-Germain superstar who has scored 18 goals in 22 appearances this season.
“He is a difficult boy. For me, he is not a good example.”
“He is excellent as a player. If you ask me for my world top five, he is definitely on the list.”
“But on the pitch, he tries to cheat, he play-acts a lot.”
“And there is also the way he left Barcelona.”
The criticisms are nothing new when it comes to Neymar but I would hope that a 69-year-old former manager would be a bit more careful with his words.
Neymar has admitted that he does embellish challenges because he receives little protection from referees so he dives to try to get opponents on a yellow card. Neymar is the most fouled player in Ligue 1 and the treatment he receives has been something Paris Saint-Germain has tried to deal with since his arrival in 2017.
Speaking of which, I’m not sure what Del Bosque’s issue is with Neymar’s departure from FC Barcelona. The club set the buyout figure and PSG paid it. Neymar wanted to leave and PSG had the money. I fail to see the issue here. I’d be curious if Del Bosque has an issue with how Barcelona signed Antoine Griezmann last summer or was it earlier than that?
I don’t like this phrase but I definitely think it applies to Del Bosque in this situation, “OK Boomer.”
