Barcelona Went From Dreaming of Neymar to Hoping to Sign Kurzawa

The Layvin Kurzawa experiment at Paris Saint-Germain is a few months away from its conclusion and it appears that he could find a cushy landing spot once he leaves the French capital.

According to Sport, FC Barcelona are considering signing the Frenchman to provide competition for Jordi Alba once they offload Junior Firpo.

PSG tried to sell Kurzawa last January but they could never work out a deal with Arsenal FC and Juventus FC backed out at the last minute.

Working in Kurzawa’s favor is the fact that his contract expires in June, so teams can pick him up on a free transfer, and he does have Champions League experience. Those factors alone have linked him to Liverpool FC, Inter Milan, Napoli, and Arsenal (again) as per Sport.

However, since he arrived from AS Monaco in 2015, Kurzawa has never really grasped the opportunity to become a regular starter. Maxwell and Juan Bernat both usurped the Frenchman who has remained a backup throughout his PSG career. In fact, Kurzawa has been so disappointing at PSG that we named him as one of the worst transfers of the last decade.

Barcelona’s interest in Kurzawa makes sense though as they’re dealing with financial issues and recently asked players to take a 70 percent pay cut during the coronavirus pandemic.

It was thought that the Catalan club would make another run at Neymar but considering his rumored pricetag of €150 million, it’s unlikely that Barcelona will be able to shell out that kind of cash if they’re already shopping in the bargain bin to fill out their squad.
