Paris Saint-Germain could use some reinforcements in the midfield and this summer, they may satisfy that need in a big way.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com), PSG continues to target Lazio star Sergej Milinković-Savić. The 25-year-old is one of the most coveted midfielders in the game right now and he has propelled Lazio to the top of the Serie A table where they have a very good chance to be crowned champions.
The Serbia international plays as a central midfielder or attacking midfielder where his world-class passing and playmaking ability has led to his teammate, Ciro Immobile, leading the entire Italian league in scoring with 27 goals (six more than Cristiano Ronaldo).
The thought of Milinković-Savić setting up Kylian Mbappé, Mauro Icardi, and Neymar Jr. is salivating enough that PSG sporting director, Leonardo, is expected to make an offer this summer. In fact, Leonardo probably would have signed Milinković-Savić while he was the sporting director at AC Milan last season but the Rossoneri’s financial situation wouldn’t allow him to meet Lazio’s lofty price tag.
The Italian publication believes Lazio president, Claudio Lotito, hasn’t lowered the asking price for Milinković-Savić, which is thought to be €100 million. In order to afford that figure, PSG will have to offload players.
Thiago Silva, Edinson Cavani, Thomas Meunier, and Layvin Kurzawa are all expected to depart at the end of the season when their contracts expire. Leandro Paredes and Julian Draxler are two other candidates to depart the French capital and funds from their sales could help fund Milinković-Savić’s arrival.
Given the link between Leonardo and Milinković-Savić from their time together in Serie A, I would give this transfer a 75 percent chance of happening.
