Remember last summer when Matthijs de Ligt was close to signing for Paris Saint-Germain?
Obviously, those reports were inaccurate as the Dutch defender turned down PSG and FC Barcelona and ultimately chose to sign for Juventus FC.
Life in Turin hasn’t gone as smoothly as the 20-year-old planned and was even benched by manager Maurizio Sarri for several games.
Recently, during the first leg of Juve’s UEFA Champions League tie against Olympique Lyonnais, de Ligt clashed with his own teammate, Sandro, and was left with blood gushing down his head. While off the pitch receiving treatment, Lyon scored the only goal of the match which proved to be the game-winner.
During an interview with Ziggo Sport (via Goal), de Ligt shed some light on why he decided to leave Ajax and sign for the Italian giants.
“I had offers last summer from Juventus, PSG, and Barcelona, so I studied the various options and at the end of the day concluded I could grow faster at Juve.”
“They have a particular style and I knew being here would make me a more complete player.”
The jury is still out on whether or not de Ligt will turn into anything special but the truth is PSG could use him right now with their own Champions League troubles that include the injury to Thiago Silva.
