Thomas Tuchel’s decision to bench Keylor Navas for Sergio Rico backfired as the goalkeeper allowed Girondins de Bordeaux to score an equalizer with seconds remaining in the first half.
Rico went to clear a back-pass, which would have likely brought the halftime whistle, but a Bordeaux’s Pablo was able to leap in front of the clearance and block the pass into the back of the net to make the score 2-2.
Before kickoff, I questioned Tuchel’s strategy of starting Rico. He’s a player on loan and it’s not like PSG doesn’t have a world-class goalkeeper who is healthy.
You would think the manager would want to get Navas in rhythm with the match against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League coming up on March 11, but instead, Tuchel opted for a player who likely won’t be with the club next season.
Hopefully, PSG can find more goals in the second half and get back to their winning ways.
