Ronaldo Leaving Juventus for PSG Isn’t as Crazy as It Sounds

Cristiano Ronaldo still has two years left on his contract with Juventus FC but if he’s unable to win the UEFA Champions League this season, the Portugal international could depart Turin.

According to a report from Diario Gol, Ronaldo wants to win the Champions League before returning to the place where his career started, Sporting Lisbon. Another Serie A title with Juventus won’t be enough to keep Ronaldo in Italy and in fact, the report indicates that Ronaldo would consider moving to a new league to win a title there to add to his trophy case.

Paris Saint-Germain is an interesting option for Ronaldo. Diario Gol reports that Ronaldo’s partner, Georgina Rodríguez, has been looking in Paris for a place where the two could reside if he were to make the move to Ligue 1.

When you think about it, Paris would make a lot of sense. Rodríguez is a model and being in the French capital is obviously advantageous for her career. Ronaldo would have an opportunity to win a league title in a country he’s never played in before while also competing in the Champions League.

A move to Paris would also mean Ronaldo would get a chance to play with Kylian Mbappé, who idolized him growing up, as long as he doesn’t leave this summer. Neymar Jr. is another superstar in the PSG ranks that could leave after the season and it’s unclear if PSG could financially afford those three players in the squad at the same time.

There have been reports of contact between PSG and Ronaldo in the past so I’m not prepared to completely dismiss this rumor. I also think it would be a much better signing from Juventus than Gianluigi Buffon in 2018. Whereas Buffon was well past his prime and a step too slow, we’ve seen this season that at 35-years-old, Ronaldo is still incredibly athletic and prolific in front of goal having scored 25 goals in 30 appearances for Juventus.
