It’s going to be an end of an era at Paris Saint-Germain as Edinson Cavani is expected to depart the club once his contract expires in June. He won’t be the only one, though.
According to Paris United (via Get French Football News), PSG will not offer Thiago Silva a contract extension and he will join El Matador in exiting the French capital after the season.
Over the last couple of weeks, Silva and his agent were waiting at the negotiating table, but L’Equipe reported that an extension was unlikely because of the wages that the Brazilian is currently making. Nonetheless, now it seems that the decision is being made for the capital club to bid farewell to their club legends.
Furthermore, with 17-year-old Tanguy Kouassi looking more and more comfortable with the first-team squad, perhaps Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, is shifting his attention to the Frenchman whose contract also expires in June and has yet to sign a professional deal. If PSG is letting Silva walk, it seems as though they’re confident in Kouassi being the heir apparent to the Brazilian.
Even if PSG feels like Kouassi isn’t ready for the bright lights quite yet, they could look to splash the cash this summer on a player like Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, who they’ve been linked with in the past.
Regardless, once the season is over, the club will be saying goodbye to two players that have given their all to PSG.
