Report: PSG Could Enter Race for Real Madrid Defender This Summer

The January transfer window has come and gone but many Paris Saint-Germain supporters are already looking forward to the summer window where the club expects to be one of the busiest in Europe.

According to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda (via Culture PSG), who is also a former director of Marca and now leads the OkDiario site, the capital club is interested in Real Madrid’s Marcelo because of the impending departure of Layvin Kurzawa this summer.

With two years left on his contract, Marcelo has a transfer value of €20 million, per Transfermarkt. Although the 31-year-old has gained his confidence with the re-hiring of Zinedine Zidane, it’s no question that 24-year-old Ferland Mendy is the future at left-back for Real Madrid.

Furthermore, journalist David Vidales, another source in the Culture PSG article, has more information on the potential transfer.

“They’ll let him do whatever he wants,” Vidales said. “If he wants to stay, he will have his place. If he decides to leave, they will let him go, paying him a nice tribute.”

As a result, Marcelo has a decision on his hands, which is to either split time with Mendy and ultimately surrender his position, or, go elsewhere and be the undisputed starter. Enter PSG, who, aside from Juan Bernat, will need to add another left-back to replace Kurzawa.

The Ligue 1 leaders would be an attractive destination for Marcelo if he were to leave La Liga. PSG already has several Brazilians that Marcelo plays alongside on the national team and Keylor Navas was his former teammate with Los Blancos.

Real Madrid will want to continue to “play nice” with PSG in hopes of landing Kylian Mbappé, so, like the lopsided transfer of Navas, PSG could take advantage of the situation again and sign Marcelo for below market value and boost the quality of the squad.
