Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel hasn’t had a completely healthy squad available to him all season. Throughout the entire 2019-20 campaign, there’s been a rotating cast of players in and out of the infirmary.
Supporters have watched players go down with all sorts of injuries this season but there’s one that seems to be more problematic than the rest.
According to a report from Le Parisien, there have been 19 thigh injuries diagnosed this season with Thiago Silva being the latest victim. His injury is expected to keep him out for three weeks and in total, there have been 67 absences due to thigh injuries.
The numbers are mind-boggling when you consider the resources available to PSG. The club can afford the best medical treatment for its players in Paris and they have access to the world-renown Aspetar clinic in Qatar.
The injuries can somewhat be explained by the hectic schedule, travel, and the late start times, but every major football club in Europe goes through that and they don’t have 19 thigh injuries during a season.
The report from the French publication indicates a rift between the medical staff and the technical staff and how the players go about their physical preparation. It’s just another example of an unnecessary headache at the capital club. Everyone should be on the same page especially when it comes to injuries and how to treat them. You should never have 19 of the same injury in one season and if you do, something is clearly wrong.
PSG has been able to overcome injuries so far, however, with the UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund on March 11, the club cannot afford any more serious injuries at this point in the season.
