PSG Defender Rejected Contract Extension and Would Consider Move to Manchester United

Leonardo, Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director, will be a busy man in the coming months.

Not only does the Brazilian have to plan for the upcoming summer transfer window, but he also has to try and convince both Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé to sign an extension as well as decide what to do with several players whose contract expires at the end of June.

One of those players who will be out of contract this summer is right-back Thomas Meunier. The Belgium international has made it known that he wants to remain in Paris and even turned down opportunities to sign elsewhere last summer.

Meunier has also made it clear that he wants to play for a team that can offer UEFA Champions League football, which makes a recent report all that more interesting.

According to Paris United, Meunier was set on remaining in the French capital but would consider signing for Manchester United as he grew up as a fan of the Red Devils. The 28-year-old was apparently hoping United would make an offer to PSG for his services but that never materialized.

Currently, Manchester United is in 8th place in the Premier League and unless they win the UEFA Europa League, they won’t be playing in the Champions League next season.

As reported by Le Parisien, PSG did offer Meunier a contract extension at the start of the season but it wasn’t up to his expectations and he rejected it.

There’s still time to get a deal done and with so few world-class right-backs on the market at a reasonable fee, PSG might return to the negotiating table with an offer that is closer to what Meunier wants. He’ll just have to wait his turn with so many other more important players in line ahead of him waiting to speak to Leonardo about their future with the club.
