Neymar Injured and Will Miss PSG’s Match Against Nantes

Neymar Jr. was on the receiving end of several rough challenges throughout Paris Saint-Germain’s 5-0 win over Montpellier HSC and they took a toll as we learned on Monday afternoon.

Several journalists, including our friend Jonathan Johnson, revealed that Neymar will be out of the team traveling to FC Nantes on Tuesday due to a chondrocostal lesion.

Johnson also confirms that Abdou Diallo has a thigh injury and will be out for 3-4 weeks. It’s another devastating blow for manager Thomas Tuchel who is already short on defenders with Juan Bernat, Colin Dagba, Marquinhos, and Thiago Silva currently out injured.

Most of those defenders will be back in time for PSG’s UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund on February 18, but Diallo will not be available if his recovery timetable is correct. Dagba will also miss the first leg of the tie against Dortmund.

Marquinhos could return a few days prior to the trip to Germany and Bernat, Marquinhos, and Silva are expected to be back as well.

Against Dortmund’s high-powered offense, having banged up defenders just getting back on the pitch after being injured is the last thing supporters want to see.

While Neymar’s injury is not ideal, it shouldn’t keep him out of action for too long. If anything, it will keep him rested with the most important match of the season coming up.

The injury to Diallo, however, is very concerning and it could force Tuchel to rely on 17-year-old center-back Tanguy Kouassi more than ever over the next couple of weeks.
