On his 28th birthday, Neymar Jr. offered up some high praise of his Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Kylian Mbappé.
In an interview with FIFA.com, Neymar spoke about a number of topics, including PSG’s chances in the UEFA Champions League, Lionel Messi, and even his favorite dish to eat.
On the topic of Mbappé, the Brazilian was full of compliments.
“Kylian is a phenomenon. He has the potential to become one of the best players in history. To have him as a teammate is a huge honor. We understand one another very well on the pitch and off it too. I love him!”

A phenomenon indeed. Through 113 appearances for PSG, Mbappé has scored 82 goals and recorded 45 assists. In total, the 21-year-old superstar has 122 goals and 71 assists in 207 career games with AS Monaco, PSG, and the France national team that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Neymar will no doubt need his friend and teammate to propel PSG to a Champions League title. The Brazil international wouldn’t confirm if his version of PSG is the strongest he’s been part of but did say there is something different about the team this season.
“I wouldn’t say the strongest, but I feel a different atmosphere and more confidence, and this helps a lot day by day.”
If Neymar won’t say it, I will, this is the best PSG team in history and expectations are higher than ever before.
PSG could draw FC Barcelona at a later stage in the Champions League and Neymar would be forced to go up against a player he called the best in history.
“Playing alongside Leo was a unique experience and we became friends. Of those I’ve seen play, Messi is the best in history!”
Oh, and Neymar’s favorite dish to eat? That would be rice, black beans, beef, and fries. I’m not sure the nutritionists at PSG would approve but you can have a cheat day on your birthday, right?
PSG travels to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on February 18. With Mbappé and Neymar combining for 37 goals and 23 assists this season, PSG’s success in the tournament hinges on their performance.
