Thiago Silva was one of the worst players on the pitch for Paris Saint-Germain in their 2-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie.
Erling Haaland, Dortmund’s wunderkind, scored a brace against the Parisians with both goals coming in the second half. Silva was a step too slow on the game-winner but he’s not ready to concede the tie to the Germans as he explained in an interview posted on the club’s official YouTube channel.
“We knew it would be a tough game [against Dortmund]. They are third in the German league and played incredible games with players of a very high level with a lot of quality and a lot of confidence.”
“I think we played a good game, but it wasn’t a great game from us. As always in top games, it’s always the little things that make the difference.”
“Now, we have to keep our heads calm because it’s just the first half that’s finished. The second one, we’ll play at home. I’m sure we’re gonna play a great game.”
We have to adjust to whatever happens on the pitch. If we have to die on the pitch, we’re going to die. But I hope we will qualify because in the last two years we have had the possibility to go through to the quarter-finals, especially last year. We didn’t get through and that’s why I’m not bothered if people think we’re already out because so far we’re having a very, very good season.”
Silva’s words sound encouraging but some, like PSG Talk contributor Marc Damon, are tired of the talking and want to finally see this team deliver on the Champions League stage. It’s time for PSG’s captain to lead his side past the roadblock that is the Round of 16.
