Casemiro Wanted Neymar to Join Him at Real Madrid Last Summer; Talks To Him Daily

We’ve all tried to forget about the Neymar Jr. summer transfer saga of 2019 but cast your mind back to that time for a moment.

You probably remember FC Barcelona was in the driver’s seat to sign Neymar but they weren’t the only ones. We later learned that Manchester United briefly considered the possibility and Real Madrid was temporarily linked with the Brazilian in an attempt to steal him away from their La Liga rivals.

As you know, none of the teams could meet Paris Saint-Germain’s asking price and Neymar remained in the French capital for this season. However, one Real Madrid player has recently come out and stated his desire to play with the Brazil international.

“I wanted Neymar to come to Real Madrid, I speak to him almost every day, he’s a great player,” Casemiro said to journalist José Ramon de la  Morena on Onda Cero, via Marca.

Casemiro and Neymar play together for Brazil so it’s no surprise that he wants to play with his friend and compatriot. Real Madrid are one of the few teams in the world who can afford Neymar’s transfer fee and wages and if PSG crashes out of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 for the fourth consecutive year, Les Parisiens could be sellers this summer.

If Neymar did move to Real Madrid, it’s debatable whether or not he would be joining a more talented team. This season in the group stage of the Champions League, the two sides played to matches and PSG won 5-2 on aggregate—and Neymar only played 45 minutes.
