On Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain travels to Bondoufle to take on ESA Linas-Montlhéry in the Round of 64 of the Coupe de France and one very famous footballer will be hoping the amateur club can pull off one of the biggest upsets in French football history.
From ages 12-14, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele developed at Linas-Montlhéry and still holds the club close to his heart as do they. When the Frenchman made his transfer from Olympique Lyonnais to Spurs last summer, the club that currently plays in the sixth tier of French football received €300,000.
Ndombele has a game with Spurs on Saturday, an FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough, but will likely turn his attention to the Coupe de France clash on Sunday where PSG isn’t expected to play too many of its stars much to the dismay of Linas-Montlhéry’s Johan Roca according to Culture PSG.
“We still hope that they will put on some stars. We’re not going to hurt them. We want Mbappé, Neymar, Marquinhos, Verratti, we want everyone!”
In an interview with Le Parisien, Ndombele expressed his thoughts on the match and why he continues to support Linas-Montlhéry.
What does Linas-Montlhéry represent for you?
“It remains a club apart since I played there when I was young. Linas-Montlhéry helped me a lot, served as a springboard to integrate a training center. I am very attached to it. There are still some people with whom I am still in contact, such as the technical director Nordine Baaroun.”
You will be their first supporter?
“Sure, I will be for them. But hey, I already played against PSG, I know the level of its players, it will be very complicated. In any case, I will be behind my TV, fully behind Linas-Montlhéry.”
