Tuchel Taking a Cautious Approach With Former Manchester United Midfielder

When Paris Saint-Germain brought Ander Herrera to Paris from Manchester United, the capital club was hoping that the Spanish midfielder would bring stability to the middle of the park.

However, due to injuries, the 30-year-old has featured very little and has been unable to help his new team, which is why manager Thomas Tuchel is careful with bringing Herrera into the squad.

A PSG insider was quoted in Le Parisien (via Culture PSG), saying, “The coach is very careful with him, as he was with Thilo Kehrer. The injuries did not work in favor of a quick return. There are precautions taken to have him on the field in the Champions League.”

With Herrera only appearing in 12 matches and playing a total of 678 minutes in his first season with PSG, it’s no surprise as to why Tuchel is taking a precautionary approach with the midfielder. Furthermore, the Parisians don’t need Herrera to beat the lower-tier clubs; they need him to be fully healthy for more significant matches on their schedule because of the veteran experience he brings to the table.

The goal for Tuchel and the rest of the training staff is to have Herrera match fit before their UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund. That way, the midfielder can have some minutes under his belt before the squad departs to Germany for the first leg next month.
