Report: PSG Show Interest in Fiorentina’s Gaetano Castrovilli

Sandro Tonali isn’t the only young Italian midfielder that Paris Saint-Germain is monitoring. According to Football Italia, the club’s sporting director, Leonardo, has his eyes on Gaetano Castrovilli of ACF Fiorentina.

The 22-year-old is currently in his first full season with the Italian club after returning from a loan stint where he spent time with US Cremonese of Serie B.

In 17 starts for Fiorentina, Castrovilli has registered three goals and two assists along with averaging 86 minutes per game.

Although he’s playing senior minutes for the first time with La Viola, Castrovilli is a significant piece in their midfield.

With his current form in the first half of the season, the young midfielder has received a call-up to the Italian National Team. In November, Castrovilli was able to see some playing time in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying match for Italy.

Thus far, he’s making most out of his playing time at the club level, which is resulting in other clubs taking notice.

Leonardo loves players from Serie A, so it’s no surprise that he’s in on Castrovilli, but it looks as though he’ll have competition for the midfielder. AS Roma is looking to strike a deal that will bring the 22-year-old to the Italian capital city in the summer.

As for the cost, Castrovilli’s value currently sits at €25 million, per Transfermarkt. It’s a reasonable price for PSG to pay, but it does come with risk as this is the first year that Castrovilli is playing at a top-level league. Nonetheless, at €25 million, it’s a no-brain decision as the upside is worth the risk.
