It appears as though Edinson Cavani has hit the jackpot.
On Thursday, Spanish radio program El Partidazo de COPE tweeted an update to the Cavani transfer saga that surely would have caught the attention of many given the amount of money cited: €80 million and that includes the transfer fee and Cavani’s salary over two and a half years.

💰 La operación alcanzaría los 80M € (traspaso y salario) por los próximos 2 años y medio

The tweet also indicates that Atlético Madrid remains optimistic that they can reach a deal with PSG for their all-time leading scorer before the close of the January transfer window.
Atléti manager Diego Simeone has made it clear that he wants El Matador in the Spanish capital sooner rather than later. Losing to a third division team in the Copa del Rey clearly has Simeone desperate for reinforcements.
With that €80 million figure floating around, it’s clear why Cavani and his parents are angling for a move away from the French capital and why PSG is open to negotiating considering they’ll lose him for nothing in six months.
It’s still possible that Cavani will stay at PSG, and provide crucial depth at the striker position, but we likely won’t know where the Uruguayan will be the rest of the season until the last day of the transfer window.
