PSG Women Challenge Super Team Lyon for League Title

Level on 35 points but with a slightly better goal differential, Paris Saint-Germain Féminine are in first place in the league over favorites Olympique Lyonnais.

Lyon has an opportunity to break the tie with a win over eighth-place Stade de Reims on Sunday, however, it’s clear that there will be a heavyweight battle down the stretch between PSG and Lyon for the league crown. Both clubs have over 10 wins, and Les Parisienne’s lone loss was to Les Lyonnaises back in November.

Nonetheless, this PSG squad is clicking on all cylinders as they’re not only beating their opponents but doing so in convincing fashion. In their last three matches, the capital club has outscored the opposition by a staggering 25-1 margin.

Although PSG won’t defeat Lyon by a result of 11-0 as they did against Olympique de Marseille, it does build confidence. With their next matchup against Lyon set for March 14 at home, first place will undoubtedly be on the line, and with a win, PSG can send a message that Lyon has a fight on their hands, but a loss can create some separation.

If Les Parisiennes are going to win the league and perhaps the UEFA Women’s Champions League, they’ll need to go through Lyon.
