PSG Rejects Atlético Madrid’s Second Offer For Edinson Cavani

Edinson Cavani was present in training on Tuesday as Paris Saint-Germain prepares for Pau FC (National) in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France.

However, as manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed at his pre-match press conference, El Matador will not be making the trip to the Stade du Hameau due to ongoing transfer negotiations that could send him to Atlético Madrid.

According to a new report from L’Equipe, Atlético Madrid increased its offer from €10 million to €15 million for Cavani whose contract expires at the end of June.

Unfortunately for Los Colchoneros, PSG rejected that offer as they don’t feel it matches their value of the 32-year-old who is the club’s all-time leading scorer. Marca reported that PSG is looking for upwards of €30 million for the wantaway striker.

This latest development could be the final nail in the coffin of the idea of Cavani departing the French capital in January.

If Atlético decides to pursue another more attainable target to fill their need for a striker, Cavani will be forced to return to PSG and it will be really interesting to see what kind of reception he gets at the Parc des Princes considering we now know he requested to leave the club this month.

Neymar Jr. isn’t quite the club legend that Cavani is but he received a lot of stick when he returned to PSG after trying to force a transfer to FC Barcelona.

We still have a few days left in the transfer window so anything can happen, but it’s looking like El Matador could remain in Paris for the remainder of the season.
