Cavani Transfer to Atlético Madrid Not as Close to Being Done as Originally Thought

Edinson Cavani’s transfer to Atlético Madrid appeared to be hours away from being completed on Monday as several Spanish media outlets reported that the Uruguayan’s entourage was negotiating personal terms with his potential new club.

The assumption was that if Cavani’s agent was negotiating terms with Atléti, Paris Saint-Germain must have accepted a suitable transfer fee for their all-time leading scorer. According to Le Parisien, though, no such offer has been accepted by PSG.

The only offer that we know of is the €10 million that PSG already turned down according to Marca. Le Parisien indicated recently that Atléti will likely need to increase that offer to €15-€20 million if they hope to sign El Matador in the January transfer window.

With Cavani’s desire to leave and Atlético Madrid’s desperation for a competent striker, a second offer is expected to arrive on the desk of Leonardo over the next 48 hours according to RMC Sport

In the report from Le Parisien, they wondered if PSG is working behind the scenes to secure a replacement for Cavani. It’s a difficult window to do business as we all know but we could potentially see a surprise loan for Arsenal FC’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic.
