‘We Want to Win Every Competition’ – Tuchel

Everyone may judge Paris Saint-Germain on winning the UEFA Champions League but as you would expect, manager Thomas Tuchel said that he wants to win every competition, including the Coupe de la Ligue, which begins for the capital club tomorrow against Ligue 2 side Le Mans.

At his pre-match press conference, Tuchel was asked about this being the final season of the Coupe de la Ligue and if he’s motivated to win the trophy.

“We want to win every competition with Paris Saint-Germain,” Tuchel said. “We don’t have to talk about anything else.”

“We are the favorite against Le Mans, but on the other side, we have to respect the game, respect football. It will be a knockout game. So, we have to be very focused.”

“We have to be serious, but it is always like that. We want to win, we want to win the Coupe de la Ligue for sure.”

Tuchel was then asked about the fixture congestion in January in February where the team will play more than 10 matches and whether losing in the Coupe de la Ligue would actually be beneficial.

“There is nothing better than winning. Not in a club like PSG,” Tuchel said. “The best thing is to play the game.”

“It will be difficult, but at the beginning, it is a challenge to be a part of all competitions and you have the possibility to win.”

Last season, Tuchel only won the Ligue 1 title and lost horrifically in the UEFA Champions League to Manchester United, fell short of the Coupe de France in the championship game, and lost to EA Guingamp in the latter stages of the Coupe de la Ligue. It’s understandable that the German tactician would want to pick up as many trophies as possible this season.

However, the quest for silverware could lead to injuries, which could make the Champions League campaign more difficult. Ultimately, that is the trophy they’re judged on.
