Video: Saint-Étienne Supporters Launch Actual Fireworks in Stands; Mbappé Scores Anyway

Late in the match between Paris Saint-Germain and AS Saint-Étienne at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, the home supporters launched a fireworks display that wouldn’t be out of place at a Fourth of July celebration in Washington, DC.

Fireworks during Saint-Étienne – PSG that led the match to be ended at the 89′ minute mark from soccer

The supporters were raucous throughout the match but it was the typical stuff you usually see at a football match. There was a pre-match tifo, chanting, and some flares. However, late in the match, with PSG up 3-0 over Les Verts, the home supporters launched fireworks into the air that could be heard distinctly over the broadcast of the match and likely startled the players and coaching staff.

The amusing part of the fireworks display was the fact that as the stands lit up in a firery red scene, Kylian Mbappé raced towards goal and scored his second goal on the night and PSG’s fourth.

I guess when you’re getting destroyed on the pitch you have to find something to do to pass the time?

All jokes aside, fireworks like this have no business at a football match and I hope Ligue 1 will take action against the club and supporters to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
