Remember penalty-gate from a couple of seasons ago between Edinson Cavani and Neymar Jr.? Well, that seems to be a thing of the past with Neymar handing a penalty opportunity to El Matador in the latter stages of Paris Saint-Germain’s win against Galatasaray SK at the Parc des Princes.

In the 84th minute, PSG was awarded a somewhat dodgy penalty but VAR confirmed the decision. That’s when Neymar took the ball and handed it to Edinson Cavani who had just come on the pitch as a substitute in the 68th minute.
It was a great gesture from Neymar who is often criticized as only caring about himself. He had scored earlier in the match and could have very easily said ‘this is my penalty to score.’ Instead, he allowed Cavani the easy goal-scoring opportunity, which he converted to cap off PSG’s 5-0 win over the visitors.

Cavani has struggled so much this season both in terms of staying fit and scoring goals. The penalty on Wednesday night was only his third on the season but hopefully, this will help the Uruguayan regain his confidence.
Credit to Neymar for not only putting on an incredible performance but for allowing his teammate to shine. Hopefully, the PSG fans who continue to boo and jeer him will realize he is giving his all for the club and his teammates and we should embrace him for this season at least.
