For those who may not follow Paris Saint-Germain closely as we do, you may be wondering why the club’s all-time leading scorer, Edinson Cavani, doesn’t start regularly. Well, the reason is called Mauro Icardi.

The video above, compiled by our good friend @AliTactics_, does a fantastic job at showing Icardi’s goals and delicate little touches that are almost as important as they help set up other players and launch attacking moves.
Icardi has scored 14 goals in 18 appearances in all competitions. Five of those goals came in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. He is Europe’s top goal-poacher and alongside Kylian Mbappé, Neymar Jr., and Angel Di Maria, the Argentine spearheads arguably the most feared attack force in Europe.
While some laughably questioned PSG’s decision to bring Icardi in on loan from Inter Milan last summer and called them losers of the transfer window, the 26-year-old has put those worries to bed and showed why he is one of the most lethal strikers in world football.
In contrast, Cavani has only scored three goals in 11 appearances and has battled several injuries throughout the season. He is showing his 32 years of age and while he will always be loved by supporters and be a club legend, it’s clear why the Uruguayan has been relegated to the bench.
There is light at the end of the tunnel for Cavani. Reports came out this week that seem to indicate that he has a deal in place to join Atlético Madrid when his contract runs out at the end of the season.
