This season, Neymar Jr. has appeared to reinvent himself as a footballer. No, he’s not doing fewer tricks on the ball. He’s just as spectacular and fun to watch as always. What I mean is that for perhaps the first time as a Paris Saint-Germain player, he’s healthy and motivated. He’s also saying all of the right things to the press.
The Brazilian is always careful with his words when speaking to journalists as to not give too much away. It’s understandable. Literally everything Neymar says is news and twisted every which way.
After last summer’s transfer drama, it was expected that the microphones and cameras would be pointed his directed in hopes of carrying on the speculation throughout the season. Some of that has happened but Neymar, to his credit, has done a great job of focusing on PSG and not stoking the flames despite some PSG supporters booing him at the Parc des Princes.
In a recent interview with France Football, the presenters of the Ballon d’Or, Neymar answered questions about his future and some of his comments may surprise you and some are music to the ears of PSG supporters hoping he stays in the French capital past this season.
On the real Neymar
The real Neymar, few people really know him. My parents and friends only. What people see is something completely different. And in the end, they see little! The real Neymar, he is very peaceful, very happy. He is someone who enjoys staying with family and friends. I like to enjoy, savor all the moments of life with everyone.
His goals in Paris
Why do you want to leave here?” (He laughs.) I still have two years of contract, the team continues to progress. We have to stay focused on this season to do things well and win as many titles as possible. This season, the goal is the Champions League. And my priority is PSG, with maximum involvement each week. The goal is to always win the next game. At each meeting, we have to push for the club. That’s how I see it.
