Six Players Absent for PSG Ahead of Saint-Étienne Clash

Paris Saint-Germain returns to Ligue 1 action on Sunday as they travel to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard to face AS Saint-Étienne.

Ahead of the match, manager Thomas Tuchel spoke to the media where he revealed some troubling news regarding the squad he expects to be available.

In total, six players are out for the trip to Saint-Étienne including Edinson Cavani, Idrissa Gueye, Ander Herrera, Julian Draxler, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and Presnel Kimpembe.

We already knew Kimpembe would be out as he suffered a muscle injury in the match against Montpellier HSC and will be unavailable until January.

Gueye also has a hamstring injury and will remain in Paris to receive treatment. The Senegal international did not play against Galatasaray S.K. mid-week.

Muscle injuries appear to be contagious because Herrera is dealing with the same issue in his thigh as well.

Draxler is out due to a virus that he’s had all week and Choupo-Moting is out due to a “private problem” according to Le Parisien.

The news about Cavani is unfortunate especially after his goal against Galatasaray that was celebrated by PSG supporters around the world. El Matador felt some discomfort in his muscle after the match on Wednesday and will not make the trip to play Saint-Étienne.

The news leaves Tuchel with few options in his midfield and attack. Mauro Icardi and Kylian Mbappé are the lone strikers and the injuries to Gueye, Herrera, and Draxler could mean another start in midfield for youngster Tanguy Kouassi.
