Paris Saint-Germain isn’t afraid of spending big to bring in world-class players, but with new sporting director Leonardo in charge, supporters should expect some more practical signings.
In his first stint as sporting director, Leonardo made some under-the-radar signings that ended up working out for the club long-term—Marco Verratti being a prime example.
Back to the present day, it looks as though Leonardo might pull a signing that may catch some off-guard.
According to TyCSports (via CulturePSG), the capital club is interested in Boca Juniors midfielder Nicolás Capaldo. The 21-year-old has appeared in 16 matches for the Azul y Oro in all competitions, where he’s only registered one assist.

With the UEFA Champions League knockout stage matchup against Borussia Dortmund approaching, manager Thomas Tuchel needs to learn from last year’s mistake. Although Marquinhos can play in the midfield, it’s best to have him with Thiago Silva at center-back and avoiding some of the mental errors that Presnel Kimpembe is prone to committing.
Getting back to Capaldo, if Marquinhos moves back to defense, it means another spot in the midfield is open. Furthermore, the Argentine may not help PSG in the Champions League, but with the club wanting to win every competition they’re in, Capaldo can certainly contribute in domestic cup competitions and in Ligue 1.
The only downside of this potential transfer is that Capaldo may have tremendous upside but the Argentine doesn’t fix the height issue in the midfield. However, PSG is looking to obtain the priority purchase, which is €500K. Also, with a value of €2.5 million, according to Transfermarkt, it’s a low-cost purchase that could be very valuable in a couple of years.
