The California-based company released its “Year in Search” results on Friday, which displays the top search terms from 2019. According to Google, the lists “are based on search terms that had the highest spike this year as compared to the previous year.”
When you sort by “global,” Neymar ranks second on the list of most search people behind only NFL wide-receiver Antonio Brown. The biggest spike in searches for Neymar came June 2-8, which coincides with his transfer rumors and legal issues.
Neymar’s rise as one of the most searched personalities in the world is surprising when you consider he’s never appeared on this list before according to Le Parisien.
While his popularity on the global stage is unquestioned, Neymar still has some work to do in the United States. The Brazilian failed to rank in the top 10 for personalities or athletes in America. In France, as you would expect, Neymar was the top searched athlete ahead of the late Emiliano Sala.
