Mbappé is the First French Player to Score 30 Ligue 1 Goals in Calendar Year in 50 Years

Get used to the fact that Kylian Mbappé is going to break a lot of records for as long as he’s plying his trade in Ligue 1.

With his goal in the 10th minute against Amiens SC, Mbappé is the first French player to score 30 goals in a calendar year in Ligue 1 since Hervé Revelli in 1969 according to OptaJean. That year, Revelli recorded 31 goals, which Mbappé could easily equal with an entire half of football to play against Amiens.

The goal also meant that Mbappé has scored in each of PSG’s last seven games. One more and he’ll tie Carlos Bianchi’s record of scoring in eight consecutive matches during the 1978-79 season.

Mbappé, who turned 21 yesterday, will have an opportunity to tie that record on January 5 as PSG play amateur side ESA Linas-Montlhery in the Round of 64 of the Coupe de France.

The Bondy-native has been in fantastic form this season and you almost hate to wait until January 5 to see him in action again. After Saturday’s match, the entire squad is going on holiday and won’t return to training until January 2. The rest is much-deserved, though.
