Manchester United Defender Causes Stir After Wearing PSG Shirt

Marcos Rojo was an unused substitute when Manchester United pulled off the shocking 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League last season but a recent photo suggests he holds a special affinity for Les Parisiens.

The Argentina international was photographed wearing Paris Saint-Germain’s home jersey while visiting the grounds of his boyhood club Estudiantes where he played from 2008 to 2011 before signing for Spartak Moscow.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Rojo, who is recovering from a muscle injury, spent the holidays in Argentina with his family and Manchester United essentially has him on standby while they seek a transfer for him during the January transfer window. It’s thought that the 29-year-old is not in Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s long-term plans and the Red Devils will likely part ways with him if they can find a suitor.

Upon closer inspection, Rojo is wearing the 2019-20 edition of PSG’s home kit. It also has a UEFA Champions League patch on the sleeve. There are several Argentinians within the PSG squad, so it’s possible it could have been a gift from Angel Di Maria or Leandro Paredes.

It’s also possible that Rojo likes the design of the shirt. We know that perhaps more than any other club, PSG is a fashion brand and athletes and celebrities have been photographed wearing the famous colors of the club for years.

In general, a footballer who is signed to a professional contract should never ever be photographed wearing another club’s shirt and Manchester United supporters have voiced their opinion of the photos on social media:

Many are speculating that Rojo could be signed by PSG but I don’t see that deal happening at all. With Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Abdou Diallo, Thilo Kehrer, Presnel Kimpembe, and Tanguy Kouassi, manager Thomas Tuchel is likely all set at center-back.
