Paris Saint-Germain returns to training on January 2 and play their first match of 2020 on January 5 against ESA Linas-Montlhery in the Coupe de France. Until then, we get ridiculous transfer rumors like this one from Le10Sport.
The first part of the rumor is believable. Fresh off a ruling that said they can participate in the January transfer window after being banned from the last two, Chelsea FC is lining up players they could bring in to help keep them in the top four of the Premier League.
The rumor from Le10Sport mentions Julian Draxler as a player that interests Chelsea manager Frank Lampard. The German is available from all reports we’ve seen and will likely cost around €20 million according to RMC Sport.
That’s a transfer that I could see getting done. Draxler has long been rumored to be of interest to Arsenal during the Arsène Wenger days but maybe he would prefer to join the Blues of London instead.
The second part of the transfer rumor from Le10Sport is complete and utter fiction. Somehow, Idrissa Gueye’s name is brought up as a Chelsea transfer target despite just joining PSG last summer.
The Senegal international has hit a rough spell recently due to injury but he got off to a brilliant start at his new club. If he finds his previous form, he figures to feature prominently in manager Thomas Tuchel’s starting lineup in the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League.
PSG sporting director is recruiting additional midfielders (Sandro Tonali, Emre Can, and Lucas Paquetá) but I wouldn’t necessarily take that as a sign he doesn’t prefer Gueye. PSG has been hit especially hard this season with injuries and additional signings could be made with depth in mind.
Gueye is here to stay in the French capital for the foreseeable future and Chelsea will have to look elsewhere for help in their midfield.
