Paris Saint-Germain faced Real Madrid twice this season in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League and defeated them 5-2 on aggregate. For some reason though, Dani Carvajal thinks his team is the better side and is where Kylian Mbappé should be playing football.
“We’ve obviously all seen what he can do. He’s one of the top players around, and it would be good [to play alongside him], because this is a club where the best players should be plying their trade.” — Bleacher Report (via Goal)
If you go off of history, sure, Real Madrid is historically a better team than PSG. Right now though? I think you can make the case that Les Parisiens are better constructed than Los Blancos and the results in the Champions League bear that out. Remember, Real Madrid blew a 2-0 lead to PSG at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on matchday five of the tournament.
This quote from Carvajal isn’t as disturbing as manager Zinedine Zidane declaring his love for Mbappé but it’s pretty clear what the Spanish giants are doing here. They’re trying to continuously remind PSG and Mbappé that they are desperate for the Frenchman’s services and that they are lining up a mega-bid next summer.
Mbappé had the opportunity to go to Madrid in 2017 after his breakout season with AS Monaco. According to Vadim Vasilyev, the former Monaco vice-president, Mbappé turned down a Madrid move and preferred to stay in his home country and play for PSG.
With his new Nike collection with distinct ties to his hometown of Bondy (a suburb of Paris), it’s clear that leaving Paris isn’t going to come easy for Mbappé no matter how great Carvajal thinks Real Madrid is.
