Video: Icardi Rescues PSG With Last-Gasp Goal Against Brest

Paris Saint-Germain was put to the sword against Stade Brestois on Saturday night in a hotly contested Ligue 1 match.

Late in the match, the reigning French champions were tied 1-1 against the newly-promoted side and desperately needed a goal to avoid suffering a second consecutive embarrassing result in Ligue 1.

Manager Thomas Tuchel made a triple change in the 80th minute and one of his changes included Mauro Icardi for Edinson Cavani.

The move proved to be the difference as five minutes later, the Argentine found himself in the right place as he’s done so often this season and put PSG back in the lead for good.

It wasn’t the prettiest of goals but it was exactly what PSG needed. Julian Draxler sparked the move and passed to Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting who crossed over to Icardi who was right in front of the goal. A Brest defender attempted to break up the pass but Icardi was quick to react and finish the play.

The goal is sure to be demoralizing to Cavani who started for the first time since August and didn’t do much all game. Icardi has become the unquestioned starter at striker and the fact he had to come on to rescue PSG while Cavani couldn’t will be a hit to his ego and potential playing time moving forward.
