Report: Selling Neymar to Barcelona Will Help PSG Keep Mbappé From Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappé is set to become the main man in Paris if recent reports are to be believed.

According to Paris United, sporting director Leonardo has come to the conclusion that the face of the Paris Saint-Germain project will be the 20-year-old Mbappé.

The report details a plan where Neymar will be allowed to leave PSG next summer, presumably to FC Barcelona, and the money from the transfer will be used to increase Mbappé’s salary to approximately €30 million per year and hopefully keep him at PSG until the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Mundo Deportivo also reports that PSG will cash in on Neymar and use the funds to extend Mbappé.

Paris United predicts PSG will be busy this upcoming January transfer window with the club wanting to prove to Mbappé that they can add the necessary players around him to be successful in the French capital. According to Paris United, Mbappé was happy with last summer’s transfer window, which saw the arrival of Idrissa Gueye, Keylor Navas, and Mauro Icardi to name a few.

What’s going to make this plan difficult is the persistence of Real Madrid to sign Mbappé. It seems like every press conference someone associated with Los Blancos is talking about loving Mbappé and how they want him playing for their club.

Losing Mbappé and Neymar in the same transfer window would be catastrophic for PSG, so Leonardo must tread lightly when dealing with two of the most high-profile footballers in the world.

In my opinion, I believe there’s a way to extend the contracts of both Neymar and Mbappé and keep them at PSG long-term, but that all depends on the team’s success in the UEFA Champions League this season.

It will be a fascinating summer from a fan’s perspective and with Leonardo running the show at PSG, I’m confident whatever the outcome, PSG will come out winners.
