Cavani’s Father Slams PSG: ‘Champions League is Not Only Won With Money’

Well, Edinson Cavani can forget about that contract extension.

In an interview with Fútbol en Movistar+, Luis Cavani spoke about his son whose contract at Paris Saint-Germain runs out at the end of the season and whose future is very much undecided at the moment.

In the interview, Cavani’s dad is quoted as saying, “He [Edinson] will win all of the trophies in France, but he will never win the Champions League — it is not only won with money.”

Well, Luis, when you look at the last 10 UEFA Champions League winners, show me one club that doesn’t spend an obscene amount of money on transfers and player salaries. Do you think FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich FC, and Chelsea don’t spend a lot of money?

Obviously, you need more than just money to win the Champions League and I think that’s the point the elder Cavani was trying to make. The funny thing is, this season, with his son on the bench, PSG is proving they have the depth and quality to actually win the most coveted trophy in club football.

PSG’s all-time leading scorer has contributed very little this season and has been battling injuries for the past year. Hopefully, the Uruguayan can bounce back in the second half of the season but he’ll need to be impressive to earn playing time over Mauro Icardi.
