Bayern Munich Monitoring Thomas Tuchel’s Situation at PSG

What is it with other clubs desperately wanting what Paris Saint-Germain has? Real Madrid wants Kylian Mbappé, FC Barcelona wants Neymar Jr., and according to a recent report, FC Bayern Munich wants manager Thomas Tuchel.

As reported by Kicker (via SPOX and Bavarian Football Works), The Bundesliga bullies are maintaining contact with Tuchel’s camp in the hope that he will be available in the near future and interested in their open managerial position.

This isn’t the first time the German giants have come after Tuchel. Earlier this month, Tuchel was forced to answer questions about his interest in the Bayern Munich job after they sacked Niko Kovac. Sky Sports reported that Bayern had contacted Tuchel about their vacancy.

If you go back further in history, the former Borussia Dortmund manager was on Bayern’s shortlist back in 2018 when they were looking for a new boss.

In an interview with L’Equipe, Tuchel revealed that Bayern Munich made him an offer but he was destined for PSG.

“…with Bayern there were only contacts,” Tuchel said. “Their proposal arrived too late, I had already decided to join PSG.”

Now that Bayern is without a coach once again, they may not want to repeat their previous mistake by not hiring Tuchel.

While the German has led PSG to the top of Ligue 1 this season and finished above Real Madrid in Group A of the UEFA Champions League, anything short of a semi-finals appearance in the tournament could cost him his job.

The margin of error is likely even smaller for Tuchel as sporting director Leonardo, who arrived last summer, did not hire him. He may want to hire his own manager, someone who is more in line with his tactical philosophy and agrees with the type of players the club should be signing.

It will be an interesting second half of the season with a lot on the line for PSG and Tuchel.
