The Italian Club Hoping To Sign Cavani Next Summer

Edinson Cavani is expected to return to action for Paris Saint-Germain per the club’s official website after a hip injury kept him out for several weeks. The injury, which is the latest in a string of muscle injuries the 32-year-old has sustained the past year, is likely what is keeping PSG executives from offering El Matador a lucrative contract extension.

PSG’s all-time leading scorer is out of contract at the end of this season and given his age and mounting injury list, the reigning French champions are unlikely to offer him an extension. Instead, the Uruguay international will be allowed to leave on a free transfer to whatever club he wants and there should be plenty of interest in his services.

Inter Milan, David Beckham’s expansion MLS club, was rumored to be interested in signing him according to MLSSoccer.com but the latest report from Calciomercato has him staying in Europe.

According to their report, the masters of the free transfer, Juventus FC, plan to swoop in for Cavani if PSG allows his contract to run out. Cavani will be familiar with Juventus and Serie A from his time with Palermo and Napoli and would likely welcome a move back to not only a league he excelled in but the top team in that league that can still offer Champions League football. It’s hard to imagine Cavani would sign for an MLS team if he can play a role at Juventus or Atlético Madrid, which AS reported was a possibility recently.

Cavani is a club legend and it would be nice for him to retire in a PSG shirt, but he still has plenty of football left in him and if it can’t be at the Parc des Princes, I hope he moves to whatever team will make him the happiest.
