After waiting weeks for a Paris Saint-Germain match due to the international break recently, we’re now one day away from their second game in the span of four days as Les Parisiens prepare to travel to Belgium to face Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.
Matchday 3 will pit the two top teams in Group A against each other in a game that PSG should win even without Neymar Jr. and Idrissa Gueye who will both miss the action due to injuries. On the latest episode of The 1970, Marc and Ed preview the game and give their potential starting lineups. They also talk about the other match in the group, Galatasaray S.K. vs. Real Madrid, and whether or not Los Blancos will be allowed to not qualify for the knockout stage.
We also recap the game against Nice and give our biggest takeaways from the 4-1 victory that saw Angel Di Maria score a fantastic brace in the opening 20 minutes. We talk about Thomas Tuchel’s tactics in the game and how he managed to get the best from the players available to him.
Other topics covered in this episode include Thomas Meunier’s contract situation. Should PSG give him a new contract or allow him to leave at the end of the season? That could depend on whether or not PSG signs a full-back in the January transfer window, something many fans would love to see.
Our main event topic is international football and Tuchel’s recent comments about players participating in too many matches. Does he have a point? What can be done to keep players healthy and performing at their absolute best?
We wrap up the episode by answering some of your questions sent in via Twitter.
