Report: Leonardo Interested in AC Milan’s Paquetá

It’s obvious that Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director Leonardo loves to recruit talent out of Serie A. In his previous stint with PSG (2011-13), Leonardo was instrumental in the club signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva, Javier Pastore, Thiago Motta, and several other players from the Italian league. Now that he has returned to Paris after a brief stint away, Leonardo is ready to raid Italy once again.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio (via MilanNews.it), Leonardo is keeping tabs on a player he signed while he was the sporting director at AC Milan. Lucas Paquetá is a talented 22-year-old attacking midfielder from Brazil who joined Milan in January of 2019 for €35 million from Flamengo and is a player Paris Saint-Germain could use especially if Neymar Jr. departs for FC Barcelona next summer.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Di Marzio stated that Paquetá could be given more freedom under new Milan manager Stefano Pioli but that Leonardo continues to monitor the player.

“[Paquetá] was taken by Leonardo, who I believe continues to follow him,” Di Marzio said. “I don’t know if Paris Saint-Germain will come to bring him there, but I know that Leonardo is continuing to follow him.”

If Milan misses out on the UEFA Champions League again (they’re currently 13th in the Serie A table), it’s possible Paquetá could be looking around for a new club that can offer European football. Given PSG’s strong Brazilian contingency and his relationship with Leonardo, the reigning French champions stand a good chance to land the €35 million-rated midfielder according to Transfermarkt.
