PSG Makes Moves To Keep Standout Striker

Since arriving from Inter Milan last summer on a season-long loan, Mauro Icardi has been sensational for Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentina international has made six total appearances for the reigning French champions and has scored five goals and recorded one assist. That’s a pretty good return on investment.

Icardi’s contributions have been especially important as Edinson Cavani, Neymar Jr., and Kylian Mbappé have all missed significant time this season so far with injuries.

More importantly, though, Icardi—and his agent/wife—hasn’t caused issues off the pitch as publications like Bleacher Report warned about when the loan deal was reported.

The loan deal has been so successful that Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly looking into making Icardi’s stay in the French capital permanent according to Diario AS.

With Cavani out of contract at the end of the season and a mounting list of muscle injuries over the past year, it is unlikely sporting director Leonardo will extend his stay at PSG even though that is El Matador‘s preferred destination.

Instead, PSG will look to activate the non-mandatory €70 million purchase option, per ESPN, attached to Icardi’s loan deal, which would be a bargain in today’s market for a top-tier striker.

In recent weeks, there has been plenty of rumors regarding Cavani. Juventus FC, Atlético Madrid, Manchester United, and even Inter Miami of Major League Soccer, have expressed interest in the Uruguay international.

Unless Cavani can rejuvenate his career and stay healthy, it appears as though his time at PSG will be coming to an end and the Icardi era will begin.
