PSG Has More Instagram Followers Than Liverpool and Arsenal

Founded only 49 years ago, Paris Saint-Germain has amassed more Instagram followers than several Premier League clubs with more than 100 years of history.

According to a post by Transfermarkt, PSG sits comfortably in 5th place in their list of the most followed football clubs on Instagram. Obviously, these numbers are fluid as users are constantly following their favorite teams, but there is quite a gap from PSG to sixth place Liverpool.

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona lead the pack by a sizable margin with Juventus FC well behind them in third, which I found surprising. Manchester United are in fourth, right ahead of PSG.

The fact that PSG, a French team founded in 1970, is even mentioned with these clubs, much less ahead of teams like FC Bayern Munich and Arsenal, is a testament to their marketing team since Qatar Sports Investments took over in 2011. Since then, PSG has blitzed the footballing world by signing the world’s most notable players (David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar Jr., and Kylian Mbappé). They were the first to sign a kit deal with Jordan Brand and you can’t go a week without seeing an athlete from another sport wearing a PSG shirt or hat.

With this much marketing success, it makes you wonder what will happen when PSG do finally lift the UEFA Champions League trophy. For the longest time, they were known as a “sleeping giant” but as these social media numbers will show, that giant is awake and starting to make some noise.
