Mbappé Expected to Return Against Brugge

The complicated recovery of Kylian Mbappé’s hamstring appears to be finally coming to an end with Le Parisien reporting that the 20-year-old is expected to make his return on October 22 against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.

Mbappé suffered a muscle strain in his thigh in a match against Toulouse FC on August 25. The speedy Frenchman accelerated towards goal and came up clutching his leg as he immediately felt something go horribly wrong with his body. Since then, Mbappé has only appeared for 30 minutes against Girondins de Bordeaux on September 28 and another 30 minutes against Galatasaray S.K. in the Champions League. Originally, this was only supposed to be a four-week recovery per the club’s official website but the FIFA World Cup winner still felt discomfort on international duty with France and was eventually sent back to Paris for further treatment as reported by L’Equipe.

Further treatment and rest throughout the international break appear to have worked for Mbappé who is expected to make his return when Paris Saint-Germain travel to Brugge for a pivotal match between the two top teams in Group A of the Champions League. The return of Mbappé will be especially welcomed after the news on Monday that revealed Neymar Jr. will miss four weeks with a muscle injury of his own that he suffered while on international duty with Brazil.

A win over Brugge will give PSG a commanding lead in the group and essentially punch their ticket to the knockout stage of the tournament. This should allow Thomas Tuchel to rotate his squad for some of the later games in the group stage and give rest to those players just coming back from injury.

Paris Saint-Germain returns to action on October 18 as they travel to the South of France to take on 9th place OGC Nice.
