Paris Saint-Germain went into the cauldron that is Türk Telekom Stadium and escaped with a narrow 1-0 win over Galatasaray S.K. on Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League.
With Kylian Mbappé unable to go a full 90 minutes according to Thomas Tuchel and reported by ESPN, the manager made the decision to name Mauro Icardi in his starting lineup and rely on him to lead PSG’s attack. The Argentina international didn’t really impress until the 52nd minute when he positioned himself perfectly for a pass from Pablo Sarabia and score his first goal in a PSG shirt.

Icardi’s goal would go on to be all the reigning French champions would need to secure the three points as Galatasaray only managed to muster one shot on goal. It was far from a perfect performance from PSG but it was exactly what you need sometimes in the Champions League. You’re not always going to win 7-2 like FC Bayern Munich did today against Tottenham Hotspur and you’re not always going to score amazing goals. Sometimes you score one goal and have to grind out a win by any means necessary.
With the win, PSG extended their lead to four points at the top of Group A. Paris will be back in action in the Champions League on October 22 when they face Club Brugge who went to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium today and outplayed Real Madrid but settled for a 2-2 draw. Brugge currently sits in second place and it will be another tough road test for Les Parisiens. A win should all but secure their place in the knockout stage of the Champions League.
